A little about me

Welcome

Hi, and welcome to my portfolio site! About that name - greendost? The “green” as you might guess relates to an eco-urban awareness, and “dost” (or in Hindi दोस्त) means friend.

Career and Interests

My name is Harteg Wariyar, and I am a software developer with over 15 years experience, primarily in the financial technology (wealth tech) space. I work on financial applications focused on portfolio accounting solutions, including reports, custodial reconciliation, and trading tools. My skillset is specialized, but when I have time, I try to read up on modern tech developments - such as full-stack web development, cloud, UX, etc.

I also keep a few non-technical interests, particularly around the arts such as music and sketching. Sketchnotes is one skill that I am currently looking to develop. Also a big fan of street art, modern visual art, lettering, etc. It all comes together with my interest in cities, which I think are a fascinating human construct and the right way to live for most of us.

How I code

Some principles and personal quirks with how I develop software:

- make sure to have a clear understanding of the solution
- make sure others on the team have that clear understanding as well
- currently using LucidChart
strategies for working with “constrained” codebases
- devise practical testing approaches for business-critical code, which may come with complementary side effects
- develop tools (for non-open source technologies with minimal community support)
- try to find areas to refactor
- comment thoughtfully
sensitive to details
- big fan of neuroscience approach to coding (Programmer’s Brain by Felienne Hermans)
- continually refining
